Tickets

‘Tickets’ was the first real love song I wrote, right at the apex of all those nice feelings you have in a new relationship. It’s about someone knowing you have all this baggage, all these issues you need to work through, and still wanting to be with you. The concept truely blew me away at the time.

LYRICS

My books are overdue
My tickets have expired
And I don’t feel that inspired
But some how I have you
Some how I have you

And there are doors I still have open
And things I haven’t said
And the parts I brought are broken
And others I regret
But you insist on knowing deeply
And digging deeper still
And I resit because you’re heart must be unreal

But you choose your time to be with me
And you give your heart so patiently
You choose your time to be with me
And you have the heart I want in me

My books are getting torn
My fingers feeling worn down
And we’re lingering in small towns
But some how you want me
Some how you want me

And there are doors I still have open
And things I haven’t said
And the parts I brought are broken
And others I regret
But you insist on knowing deeply
And digging deeper still
And I resit because you’re heart, it feels unreal

CREDITS

Vocals, Guitar, and Piano by Ella Sterland

Mixed and Mastered by Craig Booth

Tickets used to be an exact rip off of Dodie’s ‘Secret For The Mad’, and I was really attached to this early version of Tickets for a long long time. It was quite a last minute change to do this live RnB style arrangement, and I recorded the vocals and guitar together with the same mic in my room, adding some keys later. This version has been so fun to play, and I’m glad I made the track a little more upbeat, even though this first version makes me feel all happy inside still
