Pipe Dream

‘Pipe Dream’ was a collaboration between Bares and Skyepaint, two artists who first met in 2018 when they both played a set at Symposium in Sydney. This song came about in multiple zoom sessions from different states, and showcases a love for synthwave pop and dance beats.

‘Pipe Dream’ is a tongue in cheek confrontation of someone unwilling to close the door on a relationship. The reality of the relationship blooming is a pipe dream, but in that moment just before the sun rises, it feels like anything could happen. Maybe things could work if both people we’re willing to try, there’s plenty of universal symbolism that could say it’s meant to be, but in the end it’s not down to chance and decisions have to be made, and the morning has to come eventually

LYRICS

Fate doesn’t exist but
I wish that it did, we
Could blame it on her
But could you blame her?

We never make sense, but
If you stay on the fence
She’s gonna throw you around
Lest you tame her

I know I’m telling you to go
But when you leave I got these feelings
I need you to know
I know you’re waiting for a sign
That everything will be worth it
And that we’ll be alright

Even if it might be
Baby it’s a pipe dream
Never leave the love things down to the draw

I know it’s exciting
Daylight’s who you’re fighting
Always leave you wanting a little bit more

You toss only heads and
You say that its set, but
I know that the odds are still even

I wanna stay up all night
You wanna keep it polite
You’re gonna go now
So why aren’t you leaving?

I know I’m telling you to go
But when you leave I got these feelings
I need you to know
I know you’re waiting for a sign
That everything will be worth it
And that we’ll be alright

Even if it might be
Baby it’s a pipe dream
Never leave the love things down to the draw

I know it’s exciting
Daylight’s who you’re fighting
Always leave you wanting a little bit more

And maybe we could fall to the other side
And baby if it falters we’ll be alright
You just say the word and its dynamite
It’ll be alright

“‘Pipe Dream’ is an exotic combination of 80’s inspired synths, clean modern production twinned with the incredible vocals of Bares, which shift between registers so effectively. This track is so freaking catchy, it’s one to stick on repeat”The AU Review

“The bouncy production and the vocals from Bares on this track make it feel like a carefree breeze”Dave Ruby Howe, triple j unearthed

“Bares’ sweet vocal sits atop Skyepaint’s perfect pure pop production, which feels a little bit retro, but oh so now”Auspop

When writing to a track I generally walk around the streets near my house, trying to come up with all the right words in my notes app, and then record it shittily into my GarageBand app on my phone
