‘Montage’ is a pretty literal retelling of the final moments in a relationship that had been deteriorating for a little while. You’re sitting in the car together, remembering that time you went ice skating and they couldn’t stay standing up, or that time you ate so much pizza you both thought you would throw up, and even though you’ve been crying for hours, you still somehow make each other laugh in those moments. We were going to travel, and have a house together, and finally see that exhibit, but none of those things will happen now.
LYRICS
This quiet space is all that’s holding us
Everything will change when we get in our separate cars
And drive away the sky behind us turning dusk
But in this moment I’m still yours, cause right now we’re on pause
We spent the last two hours tearing at the seams
Finding all the rot that was hiding underneath
And now we’re tired and we both feel quite alone
Tear soaked, we still make each other laugh
Fabricating a montage of our love
All the things we were gonna do fade away
We grew up and apart and we’re not the same
It might have worked
We might have won
But we’ve been here a hundred times
And the damage is done
Memories are flying through our minds
Remembering the happiness
And conjuring the sighs because reliving them is not within our time
But we commemorate the moments that are echos of our lives
Tear soaked, we still make each other laugh
Fabricating a montage of our love
All the things we were gonna do fade away
We grew up and apart and we’re not the same
It might have worked
We might have won
But we’ve been here a hundred times
And the damage is done
And I loved you first
You were the won
But we have torn each other down
This isn’t love
Months go by and I still think of you
Maybe I was stupid and I didn’t think it through
But moving forward is all that I can do

There was this costume room at college and always made me feel like I had entered another world whenever I needed to go in there to get something. It was the most silent room I had ever been in: 1000+ costumes all shoved into one room will do that. Renee and I decided to record this new song I had written, something super poppy and fun, and very much inspired by Lorde’s new album Melodrama. This voice clip makes me laugh, whats with the accent??
